Module 2: Hardware, Software, and Internet Service Provider Requirements
Technology plays an important role in the successful completion of your degree program. The hardware, software and Internet Service Provider (ISP) you choose can have a significant impact on how well you perform within the courses. If you do not have the proper equipment, compatible software, and a reliable service provider, you can become frustrated and end up spending too much time on technical issues when you should be spending that time on course work. There is an assumption that you have access to a printer.
In addition, e-mail is the primary means by which you will communicate with your instructor and classmates. You must have a reliable ISP and an e-mail address to take an online course. We strongly encourage students to acquire their own, individual e-mail address at home.
In order to receive vital information pertaining to course content, assignments, and group work, you need to:
- access e-mail several times a week
- use the Internet for research
- participate in your online class(es) on a daily basis
To help you meet these technology requirements, we've developed an easy-to-follow guide of hardware and software requirements. If you are buying a new computer, print the guide and take it along to make sure you get the hardware and software you need. If you already own a computer, use the guide to verify that your hardware and software is compatible with ours. You can find that guide at http://www.witc.edu/online/orientation/technicalreq.htm
