Step 2 - Study & Assess
WITC uses ACCUPLACER® as its standard admission/course placement assessment tool. It is a computerized test in reading, writing, and math. Some programs will also require elementary Algebra and a computer literacy assessment. The entrance assessment requirement may be waived if you have an associate degree or higher or have satisfactory scores that are less than three years old on a recent college entrance test such as ACCUPLACER®, ACT, ASSET, or COMPASS. Official transcripts or test results required. The entrance assessment may be administered with accommodations, such as paper/pencil, audio, calculator use, and private room. Official documentation of a disability must be provided to an Accommodations Specialist prior to testing for eligibility determination. Assessments are by appointment only.
Applicants to WITC’s two Liberal Arts Degree programs are required to meet with a WITC counselor and take the UW Placement Assessment in math and English instead of taking Accuplacer. The tests are paper/pencil and timed at 90 minutes each. The use of a non –graphing calculator will be provided for the math assessment. Students should also consider taking the optional 60 minute Foreign Language Assessment if they had one or more terms of a foreign language in high school. This assessment will help correctly place students in their college level foreign language coursework. All testing accommodations would need to be coordinated through the University of Wisconsin System Center. Please contact WITC’s Accommodations Specialist if you have questions.
