This 3-credit course prepares the student to: 1) Recognize the family as the experts about their own child/family member; 2) Describe the roles of other health care professionals involved with various conditions; 3) Describe the role of program staff involved with the conditions covered in this course; 4) Identify community resources and support people available to assist individuals with various conditions; 5) Discuss educational implications and adaptive strategies for successful inclusion of individuals who have various healthcare conditions; 6) Explore health promotion in children and adults with special health care needs; 7) Examine the care of individuals with altered body systems function, including sensory, gastrointestinal, bowel and bladder elimination, respiratory, cardiovascular/blood, musculoskeletal, neurological, skin/immune, and endocrine related; and 8) Discuss emergency management of various health conditions.
