Celebrate the emergency medical services during National EMS Week from May 18-24. This week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's first responders.
The 2008 theme of national EMS week is "Your Life is Our Mission," which recognizes the commitment that emergency medical personnel make to the communities they serve. This dedication of EMS providers to their mission ensures around-the-clock care to communities across the nation.
Organized by the American College of Emergency Physicians and supported by a network of partner organizations including the National Volunteer Fire Council, EMS Week features national and local activities to honor EMS providers and raise public awareness about health and safety issues, including how to prevent injuries and what to do in a medical emergency.
To help learn what to do in a medical emergency, check out these fact sheets from the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Through WITC’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic program, students are trained to assess the emergency, provide patient care that can save a life, and transport the patient to the hospital. WITC also offers several EMS-specialized and in-service training programs. Follow this link for a list of classes offered.
