WITC to offer administrative professional associate degree online
(4/18/11): Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College now
offers a two-year administrative professional associate degree that will be
completely online for the 2011 fall semester.
“WITC received many requests from students to provide the
program online,” said academic dean Leslie Bleskachek. “This recognizes the need
for full-time employees to have an option to enroll, even if they are working
during the day and can’t attend day classes. A degree in this program can often
be a stepping stone into higher levels within organizations after initial
administrative professional program will continue to be
offered in a classroom setting with the first year available at any of WITC’s
four main campuses. The second year is offered at the Ashland and Rice Lake
For individuals currently working in an office setting who want to have the credentialing necessary to move into a decision-making position
or enhance a current skill set, this program offers tremendous advantages.
“This program is the perfect fit for the working
professional wanting to update or learn the latest software and technology,”
said Amy Pozniak, WITC-Superior administrative professional and business
graphics instructor. “It is also a good fit for someone who has a passion for
technology and software applications, the ability to multitask, and enjoys
working with the public.”
The administrative professional program prepares
individuals with the software and hardware, administrative and interpersonal
skills needed to perform the duties of administrative support personnel. The
second year of the program allows students the flexibility of increasing skills
in either communications or software applications. With additional education or
work experience, there is opportunity for graduates to advance into supervisory
or managerial positions.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, administrative
assistants will have among the largest number of job openings due to the growth
and the need to replace workers who transfer to other occupations or advance.
