WITC marine repair technician program awarded $3,000 scholarship

WITC's marine repair technician program was recently awarded a 2014 MRAA Technical Scholarship.

(11/25/14): Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College’s marine repair technician program was recently awarded a 2014 MRAA Technical Scholarship.

Scholarship winners were announced by MRAA Educational Foundation board member Jeff Siems of Blue Springs Marine during the Marine Dealer Conference & Expo Awards Breakfast at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Fla. WITC, along with Broward College and WyoTech Daytona, will receive a $3,000 scholarship to help train students for technical careers in the recreational boating industry. WITC will hold a formal announcement of the winner in December.

The marine repair technician program, which is the only one of its kind in Wisconsin, prepares graduates for a career in the marina and marine service and repair business. This three-semester program includes instruction in marine engine service, operation, diagnosis, repair, equipment installation, maintenance, and rigging new boats. Students work on two- and four-cycle gasoline engines, drive systems, transmissions, fiberglass boat hulls, electrical systems, and consumer-supplied products.

The MRAA Technical Scholarship Fund was founded to offer financial assistance for technical training of dealership personnel and was initially underwritten by the OMC Foundation. Any educational institution that provides recreational marine industry technical training is eligible to apply.
