Three New Programs Added to WITC’s Growing Curriculum
(4/21/2015): Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College is adding the new e-connect child care services technical diploma and revamping their cosmetology and criminal justice studies programs.
E-connect child care services is an innovative new program offered at every WITC campus as a one-year technical diploma. It incorporates the first year of the early childhood education associate degree with Wisconsin Professional Preschool Credential coursework. Students enrolled in this program can mix and match online, day-time or evening courses based on convenience and learning style. Upon graduation, students will have the option to continue their education to obtain an associate’s degree and beyond.
Graduates of the e-connect child care services program will be recognized as Wisconsin Registry Career Ladder – career level 11. Graduates will also be YoungStar recognized and will be eligible for the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship. Typical careers available in this field include: childcare teacher, in-home nanny, public school teacher aide/assistant, family child care provider, childcare assistant teacher, program director and more!
Effective fall 2015, the cosmetology program will be offered at the Rice Lake and Superior WITC campuses with fresh updates and a new curriculum. Students will now graduate within two semesters, opposed to the previous three-semester requirement. The new intensive cosmetology program will average 40+ hours per week of interactive, “hands-on” practical learning and emulates a full-time career and private cosmetology school schedules.
Students will be admitted to the cosmetology program every fall and spring semester. The overall cost of the program is substantially less than the previous three-semester program, and students will meet the credit requirements for full-time financial aid.
All four WITC campuses will offer the exciting new criminal justice studies program beginning fall 2015. The criminal justice studies program will prepare students for various positions in the criminal justice field. After completing the associate degree program, students can choose from one of two academies to further enhance their skillset. Graduates may apply for the Jail Officer Academy or choose the Law Enforcement Training.
