New, flexible course delivery mode at WITC
(3/30/2016) Students at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College can now take courses that accommodate their schedule at a time and place most convenient for them. WITC Flex is available at all four campuses in Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake and Superior and the two outreach centers in Hayward and Ladysmith. The new course delivery mode is available for select courses within the business programs. The
courses that provide WITC Flex options include:
-Human Resource Management
-Management and Leadership
-Medical Administrative Specialist
-Medical Office Specialist
-Office Support Specialist
Students will have the option to attend classes in-person with onsite instructor support, work from home or mix and match the two. The flexibility of online classes with the personalization of in-person support is what makes WITC Flex unique.
"Students who enroll in the flex courses will get flexibility in designing course deadlines around their schedules within a semester," said Kelly Pastika, the business instructor at WITC. "Flex is great for students whose current schedule doesn't allow them to take traditional classroom classes."
WITC Flex is designed to accommodate the busy lifestyle that can prevent working adults from beginning or advancing their education. Amy Hegge is a working mother and student at WITC-New Richmond. She hopes to graduate in the medical administrative specialist program in spring of 2017.
With the advice of her counselors, advisors and instructors, Hegge decided to utilize the WITC Flex course delivery mode.
"Beyond convenience, there are many benefits of using WITC Flex," said Hegge. "I believe Flex provides a more personal approach to one's learning over regular online classes. Flex is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to pursue a degree or certification when everyday life commitments make it difficult to attend traditional classes otherwise."
Elizabeth Grajewski also utilizes the WITC Flex course delivery mode at the Rice Lake campus.
"It works really well around my schedule," said Grajewski. "Some of the in-class time with peers is the most valuable to me. To have that face-to-face time in class really helps me to grasp and retain the material."
