Read more about Credit for Prior Learning and Life Experience.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Various types of learning styles will be enhanced through reading assignments, handouts, class/small group discussion, presentations by student and guest speakers, instructor lectures, audio visuals, written assignments, tests and a possible field trip. A key element in this course is that you read the textbook assignment prior to each class and come to class prepared to discuss the content, as well as keeping up to date on outside reading assignments, current assignments, and Internet research to be shared with the class. Many class sessions will involve your participating in a small group (team) discussion and other activities. Specific assignments will be given each week, which will require using the Internet. After students have finished their research assignments, they will share their results orally and in writing. Your attendance and class participation is critical and will be reflected in your final grade.

Following each class session, you will write a paragraph or more in your journal identifying what you learned. Also, a portfolio of all class materials should be maintained.

For your reference, a proposed time schedule and outline is attached.

The Internet and CD Rom software will be available for your use on Friday’s (Internet/Computer Activity) class session for the weekly research and class activities/projects.

GRADING PROCESS
Grades will be determined by your written assignments, tests, service learning activities (various options are available for assessment), class activities, critiques, country reports and participation/portfolio. Specific dates will be set for assignments, reports, class presentations, and projects. It is your responsibility to abide by this schedule. Failure to do so will result in a lowered grade or possible non- acceptance even when completed. Because of this type of format, your class participation can affect your grade. The final due date for each chapter assignment will be the date the test is given covering that unit/part of the textbook. (No assignments will be accepted late).

Regional Reports (2 oral and written) 20%
Tests/Service Learning Projects/Activities 30%
Written Assignments 20%
Class Projects/Internet Activities/Participation/Portfolio 30%
FINAL GRADE 100%

(*Will be altered based on class participation)

A limited amount of extra credit may be available. For your reference, the grading scale and other policies are included in the current WITC Student Handbook. Please make a notation in your calendar that your portfolio with all written assignments, Internet activities, reports, tests, etc., need to be completed and turned in for final grading prior to our last day of class.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
More than four absences will result in referral to student services and/or a possible 100% letter. You will be expected to keep an attendance record as well as call WITC or make arrangements with me if you are not able to attend class.

SAFETY
Be extremely careful when entering and leaving the classroom. If at anytime there is an accident, please inform me immediately. There are various fire/emergency exits on campus. I will inform you of them on our first day of class. An emergency exit poster is also located by the door in the classrooms.
