Offered at Ashland
Installation. Troubleshooting. Repair.
The Computer Networking Technology program will prepare you to troubleshoot hardware and software problems in microcomputer systems and networks. This is accomplished through in-depth training in basic electronics, computer operating systems, programmable controller systems, and computer networks.
A fourth-semester work-based learning course provides you with the opportunity to work with a local employer one day a week. Employers will expect you, as a Computer Networking Technology graduate, to install and maintain workstation and network operating system software and design and implement a local area network from pulling and terminating cable to managing network resources such as routers and switches.
You will learn how to apply knowledge of DC, AC, solid-state, and digital circuits to troubleshoot electronic equipment; write simple computer programs; and use hand tools to fabricate and repair electronics equipment and cable. Additional instruction in simple PLC and microcontroller interfaces and communication and human relation skills will also help you be successful in the workplace. This WITC program is unique in the state.
