When you're looking at the 144-hour EMT-Basic program developed by the Department of Transportation, it is important to understand the expectations and requirements.

Take time to schedule an appointment to meet with the EMS Teaching Specialist and/or instructors who will be able to answer your questions and help you make an informed decision about your future career as an EMT-Basic.

Admission Requirements

Students in this program must:

• Complete application/registration process and submit fee
• Successfully complete reading entrance assessment (waiver may apply with acceptable alternative test scores and/or postsecondary degree completion)
• Submit Criminal History Record Check fee
• Have acceptable results based on the Wisconsin Criminal History Single Name Record Request
• Submit Caregiver Background Check fee
• Have an acceptable Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check, Minnesota Caregiver Background Check (if applicable), and/or other states if applicable
• Attend a mandatory orientation session scheduled two weeks prior to the start of class
• Review and sign the Functional Abilities Statement of Understanding

Program-Specific Requirements

Students in this program must:

• Provide current immunization history and demonstrate negative status for tuberculosis (Tb)
• Submit copy of Department of Transportation driving record, prior to 40th class hour, if there are any moving violations
