Externship is a cooperative educational experience which gives the student an opportunity to attain work experience that is directly correlated with in-school instruction. The student-extern is under the direct supervision of his/her immediate employer/supervisor and the WITC externship coordinator. The student-extern is introduced to the work-site operation, while obtaining valuable, real-world work experience. Individual training plans are established by each student-extern to identify competencies to be attained during the externship.
Externship provides on-the-job experiences in actual work situations to program students in their final semester of study. These experiences strengthen student competencies through participation in a wide variety of occupational experiences, ranging from routine assignments to specialized work-related duties.
