Progress Report #2

(From Board Chair, Hal Helwig, and Screening Committee Chair, Susan Wojtkiewicz – September 25, 2007)

Presidential Search
The Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College Board of Trustees will commence the search for the next president of WITC. To assist in this important process, the Board has selected the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to design an inclusive, equitable, and transparent search process.

Our first step was to appoint a Presidential Screening Committee that is representative of both the college and the community. The first Screening Committee meeting has been scheduled to occur during ACCT’s first visit, which is scheduled for October 8 - 9, 2007.

The college community, the community at large, and key shareholders will have the opportunity to meet with our Search Consultants and provide input in the presidential profile. The ACCT Search Consultants are Narcisa Polonio, Ed.D.,Vice President of Board Leadership Services and Ms. Julie Golder, J.D., Board Services Specialist. A series of public forums have been scheduled on Monday, October 8 for all to participate.  If your schedule does not allow you to participate in the forums (either live or via IP video), please feel free to share your comments and suggestions by reaching out to Dr. Narcisa Polonio at (202) 276-1983, npolonio@acct.org; or Julie Golder at (202) 775-4466, jgolder@acct.org.

Everyone is invited to attend and participate in this process.  The search for the next president of WITC will be one of the most important decisions for the WITC Board of Trustees. We will be conducting a national and confidential search process and your assistance, support, and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. The Board and Screening Committee will maintain confidentiality and we expect all candidates to also maintain confidentiality.

At the public forums, we would appreciate hearing your candid thoughts and perceptions on the following:

1.    The principle challenges and opportunities that the College must address in the next five to ten years; and

2.    The principle background and experience, educational qualifications, and professional and personal characteristics we should
seek in a president to insure that we successfully meet those challenges and opportunities.
