What is WITC Alert?

Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC) has partnered with Rave Mobile Safety, the leader in mobile safety, to offer an emergency notification system, WITC Alert, capable of sending users text, voice, and email messages.

In addition, if you are on campus when an emergency situation arises, a full-screen alert will automatically pop up on all PCs and Macs, providing a warning that's impossible to miss. This technology works in conjunction with Rave and is provided by Alertus.

How do I opt-out of receiving text messages on my phone?

Text STOP to 67283 or 226787 from your registered mobile phone. You will no longer receive ANY messages from WITC Alert. Use the STOP command with caution, as this will also block delivery of Alert messages.

What type of messages will I receive?

WITC Alert will only send you messages related to emergencies. You will never receive advertisements and your information is never provided to advertisers.

What mobile phone carriers are supported?

All U.S. mobile carriers are supported.

What if my phone number changes, or I want to add another line?

If your phone number (mobile or landline) ever changes, please update your contact details at MyWITC.

Will I receive advertisements or text messaging SPAM?

No, never. We respect your privacy and you will never receive anything besides official WITC communications.

Who do I contact for assistance?

How will I identify incoming messages from WITC Alert?

For a text message, you will be sent messages from what are known as short codes. The messages will come from either 67283 (AT&T) or 226-787 (Verizon). We encourage you to save these numbers into your phone so you will recognize them when messages are sent. Some smaller carriers do not support short code messaging. For voice messages, the call will come from the WITC-Shell Lake Administrative Office, phone number 715.468.2815. Note that there maybe be a short, two to three second delay prior to the message being played when you answer the phone or a voicemail being left on an answering machine.

How do I elect to receive Alerts via voice message rather than text message?

For alerts including a voice component, you do have some control over delivery. If you wish to receive BOTH voice messages and text messages, add or change your phone type to "Cellular" within your personal information of MyWITC.

If you wish to receive ONLY voice messages on a particular mobile device, add or change the phone type to “Home” within your personal information of MyWITC. When a mobile phone number is listed as a “Home” phone type, it will receive voice messages only.

Rave does not charge subscribers to send or receive SMS messages. Message and data rates may apply. Please refer to your mobile phone contract for more information. You can opt out of SMS messages at any time by texting STOP to 67283 or 226787. For basic information at any time, text HELP to 67283 or 226787.

By registering for this service you will periodically receive text messages. The frequency of these messages will depend on how you use this service, and how frequently your community sends messages through this service.

This service is compatible with the products and services provided by AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and most other mobile phone carriers. A complete list of supported carriers is displayed during phone registration.
