The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has approved a waiver to WITC to offer the Emergency Nurse Aide program for 75 hours.
Nursing assistants, also known as nurse aides, certified nursing assistants, geriatric aides, unlicensed assistive personnel, orderlies or hospital attendants, provide hands-on care and perform routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical staff.
Program Overview
The Nursing Assistant - Limited Term program provides classroom, laboratory instruction and supervised practice in area nursing homes and hospitals. The program is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Office of Quality Assurance. After successfully completing this program, students will be eligible to complete the written and skills exams to be placed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry.
Program Outcomes
Nursing Assistant graduates will be able to:

- Demonstrate the ethical and legal responsibilities of the NA/HHA
- Provide safe care to a diverse population, meeting personal, physical and psychosocial client needs

- Assist clients with long-term, disabling conditions including dementia, always focusing on the strengths of the client
- Work cooperatively in a team environment
- Eligible to take the WI NA Competency evaluation

Academics
The CNA course is offered year round on all four campuses (Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake, Superior) and at the outreach centers in Ladysmith, Hayward, and Shell Lake. Take classes via web conferencing and hands-on labs.

Considering you could be certified after 75 hours of training, a median salary of $24,000 nationally is respectable.

Curriculum

After the WITC Nursing Assistant - Limited Term Program
Upon completion of the program, you will obtain a Nursing Assistant - Limited Term Technical Certificate and be eligible to complete the written and skills exam to be placed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry and become a Certified Nursing Assistant.

WITC’s Nursing Assistant program is designed to meet the State of Wisconsin’s licensing criteria. However, WITC has not made a determination whether this program meets licensure requirements in states other than Wisconsin. Students who may be seeking professional licensure or certification in states other than Wisconsin should contact the appropriate licensing board in that state to verify that the WITC program meets licensure or certification requirements.
Federal and state regulations require that a person's name is entered on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry only after satisfactorily completing both a Wisconsin approved nurse aide training program, or basic nursing course for professional nurses or licensed practical nurses, and competency evaluation program.
