Sheryl Lucas has extensive experience in the healthcare industry, and each job role and degree prepared her to be a thoroughly qualified educator at WITC. She worked as a CNA and CPR instructor at assisted living homes and volunteered as an EMT for 12 years. After graduating from WITC’s Associate Degree Nursing program, she continued to work at the assisted living facility as a registered nurse and she secured a position at a critical access hospital where she gained valuable experience on the medical-surgical floor and emergency room. She then moved into the outpatient clinical setting as a chronic disease management registered nurse in the Cardiovascular Center where she worked with some of the best cardiologists in the Midwest. During this time, she received her BSN and MSN in an online setting, which allowed her to develop an understanding of using Blackboard from the student’s perspective.
Lucas’s teaching philosophy is one of compassion and perseverance. While she describes WITC’s nursing program as rigorous, she also recalls the struggles of being a student in the program. It is with this insight that Lucas believes learning should be a combination of fun and hard work.
In her spare time, Lucas enjoys spending time with family, including attending or coaching her children’s many activities. She also enjoys the sunshine and singing in the community choir.
