Session 1: COVID-19 Scams: Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones

Presenter: Michelle Reinen, Policy Initiatives Advisor, Division of Trade & Consumer Protection

  • The WI Bureau of Consumer Protection will highlight the latest scams targeting WI Consumers. This will include some familiar scams with a new COVID twist, as well as Charity and Romance scams. You will also hear about helpful tips to spot scams, ways to avoid falling victim and available resources.

 

Session 2: The Role of Judicare Services in Wisconsin

Presenter: Desmonde X. Bennett, Staff Attorney, Wisconsin Judicare, and Calvin Dexter and Gloria Hand, Attorneys Wisconsin Judicare, Inc.,

  • Wisconsin Judicare, Inc., is a non-profit law firm dedicated to providing equal access to justice for northern Wisconsin residents. Based out of Wausau, WI, the organization is the civil legal service provider for Wisconsin's northern 33 counties and 11 federally recognized Indian tribes. From its inception, Wisconsin Judicare has emphasized the utilization of the private bar to represent low-income persons in conjunction with on-staff attorneys. Wisconsin Judicare's mission is to provide legal assistance to those who otherwise cannot afford it. Don’t miss this session to learn more about the non-profit legal services offered by Wisconsin Judicare.

 

Session 3: Introduction to Estate Planning

Presenter: Susan Sharp Miley, Attorney at Law

  • This presentation covers the basics of estate planning. It includes a discussion of probate and how to avoid it, the benefits and drawbacks of living trusts, and the importance of durable powers of attorney and healthcare documents.
